X Seat | Transeat - The MRT Putrajaya Line Underground Stations Bench Design Competition

As an urban hub, the Ampang Park Station acts almost like a silent observer, bearing witness to a daily ritual of human activities, of arrivals and departures, a watcher of hellos and goodbyes. The station is located in the centre of the business district, an area highly charged with mobility and vibrancy, a colourful whirlpool of human momentum, endlessly weaving through the sands of time.

Echoing the theme of “Vibrancy”, the bench “X Seat” regards the starting journey of every passenger with hope – its form is bilateral, dynamic, fluid, in which all parts convey a sense of perpetual movement, frozen in time. Inspired from this sense of movement, the bench design reflects the highs and lows of a journey, the intertwining flow of ascending and descending movements, settling into a flattened seating area, where two flows find peace in each other. The entanglement of stainless steel sheets further enhances the robustness of dynamism.

The “X Seat” acts as a piece of dialogue that balances the abstraction of movement and the clarity of material, evolving itself functionally and aesthetically to users.
